My answer is that it was not inevitable, and many historians don't like to label complex historical events as such.

The outcome between the colonies and the Great Britain could have gone a lot differently had some choices been different. The idea of Independence did not come into play until 1775 and even then many did not agree with. There were even attempts at reconciliation with the Great Britain such as the Olive Branch Petition. So I would not say inevitable.
