Some of the parts of the black codes were that race was defined by your blood if there was any trace of black blood in you, you were then black. Freedmen were not to be taught to read or write. Public facilities were segregated. Violators of these laws were subject to being whipped or branded. Employment was required of all freedmen; violators faced vagrancy charges. The black laws were laws that blacks had to follow or else they would be punished. Hope this helps!
