The word symbol originates from the greek word symbolon where sym means "together" and "bol" has the meaning of "to throw". Currently the word is used to indicate something that indicates something else such as an idea, object, or relationship. A symbol may be words, gestures, sounds, or images. Some examples of symbols we use daily are numbers which are graphic symbols to represent numbers.
