How is reactivity for nonmetals differnt then metals?

the reactivity rate increases down the group ( vertically) in the periodic table.and it decreases in the period ( horizontally) going from left to right. since the metals are on the left side of the periodic table the are more reactive than the nonmetals which are located on the right side of the periodic table.
