the lawyer and a banker are arguing about a death penalty which is worse then solitary confinement. so they strike try to a deal saying that if the lawyer goes 15 years in solitary confinement then he will get 2 million dollars. so the external conflict is them arguing about whether to give him the death penalty or not hope that helps!
