In they are orthogonal the their scarlar product will be zero.

So

[tex]a\cdot b=0[/tex][tex]\begin{gathered} (9,-7,-7)\cdot(6,y,-4)=0 \\ 54-7y+28=0 \\ -7y=-82 \\ y=11.714 \end{gathered}[/tex]
