We are given the following equation

[tex]y=-2x-5[/tex]

We need to substitute the (-7, -9) into the equation to find out whether it satisfies the equation or not.

x = -7

y = -9

[tex]\begin{gathered} y=-2x-5 \\ -9=-2(-7)-5 \\ -9=14-5 \\ -9\ne9 \end{gathered}[/tex]

As you can see, -9 is not equal to 9

This means that the point (-7, -9) doesn't satisfy the given equation.
