Cromwell died as Lord Protector and there were attempts by his inner circle to maintain the republic, but in the end Parliament decided to restore the monarchy and ask Charles II to take the throne.
When Cromwell died, his son was suppose to control England. Though people kicked him out and bought King Charles the second who was a good king of England.
