Colonial women had the traditional role of running the house or farm and raising children. They would cook usually over fire or brick ovens, prepare fires for heating, make candles for light, make soap for cleaning, make clothes, do laundry, tender the sick, provide childcare and take care of the animals of the farm or plantation.
