A)

   a

———=8       :a=64

5+3

Steps:Multiply both sides by 8

  • 8a

     ———-=8  ·   8

      5+3

  • Simplify:a=64

B)

3b/7 - 1 = 5

Add 1 in both sides

3b/7 - 1 + 1 = 5 + 1

3b/7 = 6

Multiply both sides by 7 and then divide by 3.

3b/7 . 7/3 = 6 . 7/3

b = 2.7

b = 14
