Tributyrin agar should be prepared as an emulsion because of its hydrophobic nature. Tributyrin is an oil, since oil is hydrophobic, tributyrin could not be dissolved in water. Even if we try to prepare tributyrin agar as a regular solution simple by stirred it, tributyrin would never dissolve and, as a consequence, we would not be able to prepared properly.
